Just to keep up with the plan

I had one of those days when everything happens, yet it all works out well in the end. My brain is declining my "please function" requests. I think i need to charge it a little bit. I apologize for the useless post

Xoxo themed conversations

In my short life I have been to quite a number of conferences/camps. After saying goodbyes and promising everybody to constantly stay in touch, so that at age 50+ we could share happy memories of many years ago, i am always interested to see who will, in fact, write or skype. Will it be the cute guy or the amazing girly that we hung out with? Or will it be the creep that stalked me?

This year, however, i was pleasantly surprised. Yes, all the people i miss the most stay in touch. So did some of the people i hardly ever spoke to. And you know what's the most unexpected? The fact that letters from these people are more delightful than some of the messages from my buddies.

Don't take me wrong, i love my friends and i love the conversations we have. Only when you talk with a far-distance friend during facebook chat, the conversation seems to lean towards the cheesy "love you, miss you, kiss you xoxoxoxo" . Again, i do miss my friends. I miss the fun times we had, i miss the thought-provoking topics we discussed. I must give credit where needed though, coming up with new ways to say the same things does indeed strain my mind.

Talking to an acquaintance is different. You shared somethings together, so you know each other a liitle bit, but you have not reached the actual friends stage. When you talk, there is no need to constantly add <3 simply because you wont be fooling anyone. Ergo, the conversation either dies or moves into a broad subject to be discussed. This is what i like. I like reading emails that make me think. That make me recall some memories in order to tie them up with something else. That make me question my opinions and standards. That have a concept to them. Letters that have a purpose. And a good one.

P.S. I do love my friends, only i had to get this out. I'm sure there are others who share my opinion

P.P.S. if you have any original ways to tell a friend the standard "love you", please, do tell me. I'm running low on ideas.

Let's get a bit more serious

I know that when i originally started this blog  I intended it to be a fashion/life style inspiration source for my readers. Now that a few months have past and only 2 posts were written, it became obvious to me that i am failing my initial task.

To be honest, i most likely would not have even written anything here today if it hadn't been for this article i read.
http://www.homeword.com/college-prep-ta-a-1385.html?rmmf=NzUxLCww

One of the points the author stresses is Writing. A college student needs to master the art of writing to be successful in his studies. Being able to present one's thoughts in a manner that others can understand is of course very important in university.

Now, i never had any problems expressing my thoughts and ideas in school. My teachers always commented on my ability to say what i want to say correctly and interestingly. Technically, i have already mastered the skill. No worries there. A crucially important point escaped my mind though: I'm going to an American university in California. Right now I'm studying in Russia. Using the Russian language.  I think it is rather clear what my issue might be. The longest paper i ever had to write in English was a critique on the school facilities. For English class. They actually gave us the phrases to use and limited to 120 words.
When I think about it, this is definitely not good preparation for 10 page essays on whatever topic a professor might will give me.

Luckily, the article has a good suggestion on how to develop writing skills. The suggestion is very basic - write everyday. This is where you, my dear online blog with no readers, come in. I know that many people are doing BEDM right now. Blog Every Day of the Month. I figured i could join them. Yes, admittedly, i am 4 days late, but they will forgive me, no doubt.

So, this is the main point.

For the rest of April I want to write here every-stinking-day. I do not promise the posts to be uber-entertaining. Nor will they be very informative. But this will give me practice.

Thank you
